Join the Chair and Notes exec editor Holly Van Buren for this week’s special TWO-PART EPISODE OF Pod From a Chair where we unpack the answer to that pressing question on everyone’s mind:
WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING, READING AND LISTENING TO THIS SUMMER????
(Note: For OUR answers click on the links at the end of this post).
It’s August of our SECOND COVID SUMMER and yeah, we’re all trying to keep healthy and sane. Part of that is preoccupying your brain and entertaining yourself enough so you don’t have the following kinds of thoughts running through YOUR MIND on a loop:
I don’t know about you but if I see one more group of people at a town hall in a red state who aren’t going to get the FREE Pfizer or Moderna vaccine that half the world is begging for so THEY DON’T HAVE TO DIE OF COVID, I’m gonna…..
Not do anything.
Because that’s not the way to bring people around to take the vaccine, right? And we want them to take the vaccine so next summer isn’t our THIRD COVID SUMMER and we aren’t talking about the 12th variant that’s 112 times worse than the Delta.
Unless it affects just the…..
Yup, that’s a bit how it goes out here in L.A. (Note: aka fire country) and in Staten Island (Note: The borough with the lowest vaccine rate in NYC).
We stop ourselves mid-sentence and say:
But I’m late for the next episode of ______________, or the new or old movie with __________________ or the next chapter of _________________ or the new song by _________________________ so no time to continue that thought.
Not a perfect strategy but certainly an entertaining and effective one.
So listen in as we dissect such shows as HBO’s White Lotus; Apple’s new musical limited series Schmigadoon! as well as its second season (so far) of Ted Lasso; and Netflix’s season two of Never Have I Ever. There’s also talk of binging vs. single episode devotion, as well as…well, you’ll see.
And that’s only part one.
Part Two tackles the Olympics; the dreaded last year of Donald Trump in the new bestseller I Alone Can Fix It; why neither of us is going near the new films Black Widow and Jungle Cruise but are instead revisiting classics like Palm Beach Story, Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Exorcist and Snowpiercer; and how Billie Eilish’s new and riveting Happier Than Ever album/cd (Note: Do they even call them that anymore?) must be listened to with headphones.
There’s all that and more. A lot more. (Note: The latter to be said in a slightly snide tone, in case you needed reminding).
Okay, click below and feel free to snidely comment back, to disagree, and to pass it on anywhere you see fit.
Until next week……
