The Chair Recommends: Hacks, Season 3

Maybe you’re feeling like the Chair — tired, listless, uninspired, and maybe just simply pooped.

You probably need what comes in this bittle lottle

If that’s the case, in lieu of a post this week (see above), we recommend you dive head first into the magnificent third season of Max’s Hacks. Jean Smart returns as Deborah Vance, and it’s really time to start talking about her collecting an Allison Janney/Julia Louis Dreyfus boatload of Emmys.

She’s that girl

That’s to say nothing of the incredible season for Hannah Einbinder as Ava — ever more the audience’s surrogate in the wild world of Ms. Vance. Come for the J. Smith Cameron and Christina Hendricks guest performances (they don’t miss), but stay for the gayest, most fun cast to watch (Meg Stalter, we love you).

Staying on Twitter just for the Kayla tweets

Are we gushing too much? Too bad. See above (again). And watch along.

Be back next week with more inspired content. Till then…

Did you think we’d forget to post? Nahh! The Chair would never! The Chair would also never consider it possible to get the flu at the busiest grading time of the year — but you know, sometimes that’s just how it goes.

Thankfully when he wasn’t knee deep in Kleenex and student scripts, he tuned in to the finale of season 49 of Saturday Night Live, hosted by the seemingly ageless Jake Gyllenhaal (has he been 30 for a decade? Who even knows!).

This Bronx Beat sketch is 17 years old! #whatareyaSioux

The finale proved to be salve for the soul, serving up memorable sketches (see below for our fave of the night), and an undeniable full commitment from the host (he sang… a lot).

What’s the secret to a good SNL episode? Well, that’s up to you, dear reader. But if you’re curious what The Chair (and the Good Doctor) think, check out their upcoming book: The SNL Companion: An Unofficial Guide to the Seasons, Sketches and Stars of Saturday Night Live, to be released this fall. #notsoshamelessplug

Till then, enjoy this new entry to SNL history — one that we can’t imagine will be soon forgotten.
